Deerhunter Share Interactive Concept Map Detailing Fading Frontier’s Influences

Weeks ahead of the release of Deerhunter’s seventh studio album Fading Frontier (Oct 16th 4AD), the group has released a glimpse into the mind of Bradford Cox in the form of a hand drawn Interactive Map, which offers insight on a wide variety of influences and “visual tropes” that eventually lead into the writing of the new record.

On the map you’ll find a vast array of topics like “Souless New Car Smell” to “Getting Hit By Car Walking Faulker (Dog.)” to “Japanese Ceramics” to “Tears of Fears- Songs from Big Chair” and so on proving that inspiration can come from anywhere, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they directly influenced the songs.

In a recent interview with Vulture Cox states, “I felt like I wanted to acknowledge the specific things that were influencing me at the time, but it can easily be mistaken as saying these are the things that influenced this collection of songs, which is completely not true.” In the accompanying interview you will also find topics such as “Pharoah Sanders, the Avant-Garde Jazz Musician” and “The Decline of the Music Industry” which are two out of five concepts from the map that Cox elaborates on in greater detail.

*LP pre-orders through the 4AD Store include a poster designed by Bradford Cox and are pressed on heavyweight vinyl which includes an MP3 download coupon.

Atlas Sound (Bradford Cox) is scheduled to open for some of the upcoming extensive tour – yes, Bradford will be opening for himself. Tour dates and pre-order info can be found at the band’s website.
