My Morning Jacket Debut New Song, Share Album Details + Tour Dates

My Morning Jacket‘s return comes after four years of waiting for a new album. Yes, the band has been busy playing shows, and frontman Jim James embarked on a self-titled solo project, but today marks a big day for MMJ fans.

The group has shared a new track, “Big Decisions” seen above with visual accompaniment. The song is full of spirit and loud in all the right places. The members of My Morning Jacket arrived at Stinson Beach, CA in late 2013 with full intent on making their new album, The Waterfall, which will serve as the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Circuital.

Today, the Louisville quintet share The Waterfall‘s cover art, track list, and an extensive tour dates to keep their fans chomping at the bit. The Waterfall, the group’s seventh full-length album, will be released on May 4, their first release on Columbia Records. The album was recorded at Panoramic House, a studio perched atop a hillside looking out over the Pacific Ocean, just a half hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

“For me, every record has the spirit of where we made it,” explains Jim James. “Stinson Beach was so psychedelic and focused. It was almost like we lived on our own little moon out there. It feels like you’re up in the sky.”

The new release features a collaborative sound between MMJ’s earlier releases: the experimentation of later albums, Z, Evil Urges are clearly in effect, but there are moments that reach back to It Still Moves, the album that helped My Morning Jacket reach a much broader audience.
