Listen to a Previously Unreleased Track From Grimes – “REALiTi”

Last year, Grimes (aka Clare Boucher) reportedly scratched an entire album, her follow-up to 2012’s unbelievably good Visions. We had a taste of the follow-up in the summer of 2014, when Boucher shared “Go” via her Tumblr, an infectious track that featured a very heavy shift to electronic pop, much to the dismay of many of Grimes’ listeners.

Boucher took the criticism a little harder than she should have, “Go” was one of my favorite tracks of 2014, and I was interested to see what direction Grimes was heading. Today, Grimes shares a new music video for “REALiTi” a song that reportedly was to be featured on that untitled, unreleased follow-up to Visions.

Check out the video above, directed by Clare, with her brother Mac serving as director of photography. The video was shot in 2013, while Grimes was on tour in Asia, and features some beautiful backdrops and settings. Boucher also released this statement about the song and video:

since this is no longer gonna be on the album, I’m releasing it as a special thank you to everyone in Singapore, KL, Manila, Jakarta, HK, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Seoul, Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo who came out to the shows! It was an honor to play with a bunch of amazing bands and travel to places I would never otherwise be able to go

This song was never finished. its a demo from ~ the lost album ~, recorded early 2013. i lost the ableton file, so its not mixed or mastered. i tried to doctor the mp3 into a listenable state, but it was poorly recorded in the first place and never meant to be heard by anyone, so its a bit of a mess haha.
